Overcoming misconceptions and expanding access

An interactive workshop on the Choice on Termination of Pregnancy (CTOP) Act

The Choice on Termination of Pregnancy Act of 1996 (CTOP) gives access to legal abortion in South Africa, however a substantial gap remains between policy and implementation. In this workshop, attendees will engage in interactive learning activities and discussion on three main topics:1) Basic principles and stipulations of the CToP Act and common misconceptions about the law; 2) Findings from a national-level study related to CToP knowledge, misconceptions, and opinions, 3) Resources and strategies to support safe abortion and overcome barriers to access. Facilitators will present and guide activities, and attendees will be invited to participate in an interactive questions and answer session.
