The Struggle for Opportunity

I’ve Been Trying – 8 Years Without a Job,’ directed by Sam Flans, uncovers the harsh realities faced by South African youth in their quest for employment. Narrated by Pearl Thusi, this film sheds light on a national crisis affecting millions.
Directed by Eh!woza’s Sam Flans with camera work by Alfa Fipaza, narrated by Pearl Thusi and with commentary by advocacy campaign Youth Capital, ‘I’ve been trying’. 8 years without a job is a short documentary film that uncovers the real challenges young people face on their journey to employment. According to the latest Quarterly Labour Force Survey, nearly 5 in 10 young people between the ages of 15 and 34 years old are not in employment. In the face of these growing numbers, the far-reaching impact of this unemployment crisis on young people’s lives is often invisible.
